Haryana : Basic Information

Haryana , one of the 28 states in India, has come in existence as a state on 1st of November 1966. Before this , Haryana was a part of Punjab state. Now Haryana shares its capital Chandigarh with Punjab. Haryana has a total of 44212 sq. Km area with about 42235 sq, Km rural area.

  • In north direction , it shares its boundary with Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
  • In west direction , it shares its boundary with Punjab.
  • In south direction , it shares its boundary with Rajasthan.
  • In east direction , it shares its boundary with Uttar Pradesh.

Administrative Information :

Haryana state is divided into 6 divisions. These are Ambala , Rohtak , Gurgaon , Hisar , Karnal and Faridabad.
It has 22 districts with Charkhi Dadri as the 22nd district established on 1st of December 2016.
Haryana has 10 municipal corporations , 18 municipal councils and 52 municipalities.
Haryana has 10 seats in Lok Sabha constituency , 5 seats in Rajya Sbha constituency and 90 seats(including 17 reserved seats) in Vidhan Sabha constituency.

Population : (According to 2011 census)

Haryana has a total of 2,53,51,462 (two crore fifty three lakhs fifty one thousand four hundred and sixty two) population. Out of these , 1,34,94,734 are males and 1,18,56,728 are females. With this information , Haryana has a sex ratio of 879.  Out of this population , only 88,42103 resides in urban area which is 34.88% only. Remaining 65.12% resides in Rural area. Haryana has a population density of 573. It is also to be mentioned here that Haryana has a SC(Schedule Caste) population of about 19.3%. While discussing about the literacy , Haryana has a literacy rate of 75.55%. Out of these , male literacy rate is 84.06% and female literacy rate is 65.94%.
